Elite sides vie for Team of the Year award

Three elite sporting teams are in the running for the Channel 7 Perth Team of the Year award at the SportWest Awards.

The Fremantle Dockers AFLW, Perth Wildcats and Perth Scorchers WBBL sides have all been recognised for their outstanding seasons.

The Dockers started the 2021 AFLW by winning their first four matches to finish the regular season in fifth position losing the qualifying final to Melbourne by 17 points.

Perth Scorchers secured their maiden WBBL title when they defeated the Adelaide Strikers by 12 runs at Optus Stadium, in front of 15,511 fans.

Before the 2021-22 season, Perth had qualified for five of six WBBL finals series, but never finished
first on the ladder or won the final.

The Perth Wildcats came close to defending their NBL Championship in 2020-21, finishing second after the regular season before losing the finals series to Melbourne United. They did win the inaugural NBL Cup trophy with a 7–1 record.

The Channel 7 Perth Team of the Year will be announced at the SportWest Awards on 24 February at Optus Stadium.

Tickets for the Awards are $95 per person and include substantial finger food and drinks.
