Lacrosse national champs come to Perth

The 2022 U15 Boys & Girls Lacrosse National Tournament is headed to Perth later this year.

The tournament, which is part of Lacrosse Australia’s development framework and high-performance pathway, will be held at HBF Arena in Joondalup from September 28 to October 43 and will be hosted by Wembley Lacrosse Club.

It is the premier junior Australian lacrosse tournament and has been the stepping stone for many juniors to represent Australia and play internationally.

After a two-year hiatus of representative lacrosse due to COVID-19, 2022 has seen a huge calendar of events including senior nationals and U18 nationals. Internationally, Australian teams are in action across world with the Women’s Lacrosse World Championships, lacrosse at the World Games and the U21 Lacrosse World Championship in Ireland very soon.

Lacrosse WA Chairperson Nathan Rainey said: “There have been many young players that have unfortunately missed this tournament due to Covid-19 over the past two years, but the landscape has changed and we get to see our young, talented athletes from across Australia and New Zealand get back into action.

“It is not only the start of the player’s journeys, but also the development pathway for our aspiring coaches and officials. Many who have been working hard at their respected clubs and now get to step up into this regional format.

“It will be fantastic to see multiple fields in action up at HBF Arena and a special occasion for all involved and the travelling families.”

The U15 tournament will see 18 to 20 teams, comprising 350 to 400 athletes and team officials in Perth for the week-long event with teams coming from Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria and New Zealand.

The event will be covered on via social media and live streamed via Australian Lacrosse Network.
